October 2, 2017 Gabby + Max | Historic Shady Lane Wedding Photos | Manchester, PA

Words don’t exist to capture how special Gabby and Max are and how unusually amazing their wedding was. But I’m going to try anyway. Good news is, I’m a better photographer than writer, so where the words will inevitably fail, the photos will pick up the slack.

The Couple

Seriously though, Gabby and Max are unusually amazing. From the first moment I met them, I knew they were my kind of people. They are funny, goofy, loving and kind. I’m a special kind of weird. They are too. It was a perfect match right away. I’m going to let Gabby take over from here because it will capture what I’m trying to get across much better than I’ll be able to:

“We met at Freshman Orientation the summer before we both started college at Hofstra University in 2007. Max thought I was an angry Jersey girl and I thought his name was Matt, so naturally, we left GREAT impressions on each other. It wasn’t until we realized we lived in the same building, with his dorm directly below mine, that we started to spend time together and got to know each other. We began dating a month into Freshman year and were given the opportunity to watch each other grow from young, curious college students to fully-functioning members of society. Those first few years at Hofstra allowed us to experience maturity, happiness, challenges, heartbreak, fear, and most importantly, love. We had an unspoken understanding that our relationship wouldn’t end at college, but it wasn’t until Max asked to live with me while I interned in DC for a summer, completely unprotected by our Hofstra bubble, that I realized that he was just as serious as I was about where our future was headed.

(Honestly Brea, there is SO MUCH that I could tell you about the amazing parts of how Max and I got started, and where life has taken us, but it would fill a book, not a blog post, so I’ve tried to condense it ;) )

One weekend in January of 2016, our friend Tim reached out to see if Max and I wanted to visit him in Upstate New York. We go up fairly frequently, and love being able to bring the puppies to the mountain, so I didn’t think anything of the invitation. We drove up on February 5th and after settling in, decided to go for a hike.  Max and Tim were walking behind me on the hike, and at one point Max thought I looked cold so he offered me his jacket. Luckily I declined, which is for the best, because Max forgot that the engagement ring was in his jacket pocket! It wasn’t until our friend Tim offered to take our picture in front of a beautiful mountain landscape that I started to wonder what was going on, since Max hates taking pictures. I knew it was taking way too long to take our picture so I turned to face Max to see what was going on, and realized he was down on one knee. I immediately shouted “Oh my God what are you doing?!?!” and he simply looked up at me and asked “You wanna get married?” My reply – “HELL YEAH I WANNA MARRY YOU!!!!” which is right around the time I just grabbed the entire ring box from his hand. We then got mauled by ours and Tim’s dogs, who were jumping around us excitedly. It was an absolutely perfect moment – just Max and I with our dogs, at one of our favorite places.”

The Wedding

I knew going into this year that fall was going to be amazing. I have so many couples this fall that have become very special to me and Gabby and Max are one of those couples. I absolutely adore them and I knew their wedding was going to feel like family. Aside from all of the awesomeness that this wedding has that you’re about to see and I’m going to poorly summarize – Gabby and Max gave me the honor of making them something for their wedding. I’ve been doing glassblowing for almost two years, and Gabby asked if I would make them a vase for their wedding since they loved my glassblowing work. Something that would be on prominent display at the wedding, that they could later display in their home to remind them of the special day. You’ll see that very vase in one of the photos from the reception later on – it was on their table.

Favorite things about this wedding: Everything. Gabby’s dress was amazing – classy, elegant, unique, sexy, edgy, feminine, comfortable… all of the things. Their pups Lola and Jessie were their flower girls – and there was a hilarious moment during the ceremony where Lola was trying super hard to get to a pine cone so she could eat it and everyone broke out into laughter as the groomsman holding her leash tried to pull her back. There’s also a delightfully out of focus shot of her running around “walking herself” with her leash in her mouth after the ceremony. There was a surprise Mother-Daugher dance in addition to the traditional Father-Daughter and Mother-Son dances, which had most of us in tears. And there was an endless amount of witty banter, middle fingers thrown (all in good fun), happy tears and loads of laughter.

This wedding day embodies everything that I love about my job. Beautiful people, inside and out, being their true selves, having the time of their lives – and being given the honor to be the one to capture it. Here are just some of my favorites from their big day.
