This past weekend, Tommy and I had the honor of photographing the wedding of Mary Ellen and Meredith – and for a million reasons, it will most likely remain one of my favorite weddings forever.

The Couple

From Mary Ellen: “We met at work, where I was Meredith’s boss!  When she came to tell me she was leaving to move to another state, I started to cry (not the textbook human resources response)!  We started dating soon after, requiring us to disclose our relationship and literally sign a contract saying we both entered into the relationship without coercion and that we had to divulge if we broke up.  Super romantic!  We still have the contract, as well as a healthy dose of, “You’re NOT the boss of me!” in our house.  I proposed to Meredith on a hiking trail in Massanutten, VA in front of some of her favorite flowers, mountain laurel.  I had been hiding her ring in the waistband of my leggings for all our hikes on that trip, waiting for the right moment to strike and for the universe to tell me, “do it now”.  Turns out it was in the rain and fog, after I had dropped the ring in some dirt and hoped she hadn’t noticed.  I’m smooth.  I would not change a thing though.  As you may suspect, she never moved to another state.  Instead, we built a home here in Maryland with two little boys and two crazy dogs.  We’re a South meets North, city meets country, unexpected, sign a contract to start dating kind of couple.”

The Wedding

It’s been a LONG time since I cried at a wedding like I cried at Mary Ellen and Meredith’s wedding. Their ceremony was the right mix of sweet and funny – just like them. They had one of their best friends officiate the ceremony, and as soon as she started crying, it was game over for me. I love that Meredith’s dad (Best Person) and Mary Ellen’s boys (Bridesmen) were their wedding party. Mary Ellen wore a beautiful wedding dress (which was not at all what she thought she would end up with!) and Meredith had the most bridal-y gorgeous suit I’ve ever seen. The boys were also looking super sharp in their suits! Their reception was totally no-nonsense with awesome food by Biddle Street Catering (shout out to their staff for being SO much fun and amazing to work with!), oysters from The Local Oyster, and a cocktail style reception turned crazy dance party. There were so many sweet unique touches to the wedding to make it feel like them. They even asked me to make them a bowl for them display at their wedding and later in their home – which I will share at a later date on the blog :) Oh, and Mary Ellen grabbed Tommy and made him dance with her (which you will see later on in this post!) We had too much fun, and loved every minute.

Meredith and Mary Ellen, I’m so thankful you found me and brought me into your life. I’m also really excited that we get to be besties now :)
