November 12, 2019 Carly + Shannon | Tusculum Farm Wedding Photos | Gaithersburg, MD

Carly and Shannon’s Tusculum Farm Wedding was an emotional, beautiful day and one of the biggest honors of my career. I’m so psyched to share the highlights today on the blog!

The Couple

Carly is an incredibly talented wedding photographer based out of Annapolis. It only seems fitting that after photographing more than 500(!!) weddings, that she would meet her future wife while photographing a wedding. Carly was photographing the couple on the beach when Shannon approached (alongside two of Carly’s best friends, both of which are *also* talented wedding photographers) and she ran towards her screaming, “Stop! No! Turn around! The bride needs to pass and she doesn’t want to be seen!” Shannon just stood there dumbfounded, and to hear her tell it, as soon as she locked eyes with Carly she thought “I don’t know what this is going to be, but it’s going to be something!”

They’ve spent years in the same orbit, sharing best friends, but had never met until that fateful night. That evening, Carly was invited to the after party, she actually attended for the first time ever in her career, and she and Shannon talked until 3 AM. As Carly tells it: “We have mutual friends and attended the same parties. Yet somehow we never formally met. We even attended our mutual best friends wedding, and still did not officially meet each other. Call it luck, fate, or serendipity. I can only surmise that the universe did not want us to meet until that night on the beach. Perhaps we were not yet ready for what would come next.”

And what came next was unbelievably beautiful. I’ve known Carly for a long time now, and since she’s met Shannon I’ve watched this beautiful person shine. The love they have for each other is a once in a lifetime love. It was the biggest honor to capture their wedding day!

The Wedding

This day was so unbelievably special it easily ranks as one of the most amazing weddings of all time. We started the day with Wendy leading a meditative yoga practice, helping everyone get centered and mindful going into the day. Of course, Zeus, the Tusculum Farm resident pup joined in on the yoga fun… sitting on our laps, giving us hugs, making us laugh and making it even more delightful! It set the tone perfectly for what was to follow. A perfectly laid back, fun, slightly silly, beautiful day filled with love.

I’ve had the honor of photographing the weddings of friends a few times, and I always feel like I do my best because I am able to connect on a very deep level and truly shoot from my heart. So when Carly and Shannon approached me about photographing their wedding, although there was definitely a lot of pressure, shooting for another photographer, I was beyond excited for the opportunity. I want to use my photography to show people how they love and how they are loved. But this day I also wanted to show how much I love them as well. I hope I succeeded. Congratulations, friends. It was an honor.
