Weddings

Katie and Matt were married this past weekend and and it was the most wonderful (and wet) day!

The Couple

From the bride: “We met on one of the dating apps and had our first date in September 2019 where we met for bourbon and cheese in downtown D.C. In February 2020, I invited Matt to meet not only my dad, but ALL of my friends for a big 40th Birthday Bash before taking off for a solo 2 ½ week trip through Asia…which just happened to coincide with the beginning of a worldwide pandemic. Timing, amirite? Matt prepared me by gifting me a care package of N-95 masks, hand sanitizer, and other goodies in a gift basket with black and gold paper, that just a few short weeks later would prove critical. By the time I returned to the States, Rooney thought Matt was a keeper, Matt thought I smelled like an airplane (true, it was a long flight), and the world shut down for a long while. On Valentine’s Day 2021, we looked at a townhouse in Arlington on a whim and put in an offer immediately. On St. Patrick’s Day, we closed on our first home together.”

The Proposal

From Matt: “Remember everyone Katie introduced me to at her 40th birthday party? Neither do I. I enlisted several of them to help me pull one over on Katie. They do this secret Santa or secret sweetheart thing quarterly. I said, “I have a crazy idea, why don’t you do one for the summer and instead of giving her more cooking supplies (we have a lot but still need more), I can give her a diamond (look, after the house, I only had a few more ideas of things to give her before I just give up and start handing her envelopes with Amazon gift cards in) Because all of the girls in the secret Santa or secret sweetheart (I really don’t know what they called it) are scattered all over the country, they did this over Zoom. At the end of the gift giving, I jumped in and gave Katie a ring. So the surprise engagement also had a surprise audience. Katie never saw it coming.”

The Best News

And the best, most exciting update since we got engaged? We had our son, Oliver, in February 2024. Now our family is complete.

The Wedding

Katie and Matt’s wedding day was a perfect celebration of the life they’ve built together. Their immediate families joined them for an intimate ceremony at the DC War Memorial, followed by a larger celebration at Toolbox DC with amazing brick oven pizza, an incredible DJ, and a cookie truck! Spending the day with them felt like we were a part of their close knit family. I adore Katie and Matt and I hope you can see that through the photos. Here are just a few of my favorites!
