Kelly and Kevin’s not-wedding this past weekend was the coolest wedding-not-wedding I’ve ever photographed.
When they first reached out, they were trying to figure out how to celebrate in a way that felt uniquely theirs without looking like every other wedding. They love each other deeply. They love their families and wanted time to celebrate with them. They wanted a photographer to capture the love and chaos of all their nieces and nephews. What they didn’t want was the hoopla of a traditional wedding.
So they eloped.
What started as a compromise—and not at all what they thought they wanted—turned into something really special. Instead of a big wedding, they spent a day celebrating their marriage with their favorite people.
Their closest ~50 friends and family met in Fells Point for an hour on the water with Urban Pirates. Afterward, we headed to Estiatorio Plaka for dinner with their immediate family, and of course, snuck away for some sunset portraits.
Like Kelly said, the adults will pretty much look the same for the next ten years, but the kids will only be like this for a blink.
This day was really about them.
And I love that.
