I am so excited to share Katie and Duncan’s Sagamore Pendry wedding highlights on the blog today. Their wedding this past weekend was a dream to photograph. Everyone was so wonderful, we had the best time celebrating with them!
The Couple
From the bride:
“Duncan and I met almost eight years ago in Sea Bright, New Jersey. Our wedding date is the exact eight-year anniversary of our first date! We chose our wedding date intentionally.
Our first date was at the BeachWalk Tiki Bar on Ocean Avenue. The beach is my happy place, so I’m happy I found “my person” at the beach. I was living in Manhattan at the time and would go to my mom’s beach house on the weekends, and Duncan was living in Sea Bright year-round, working as a tennis pro.
After our first year of dating, Duncan got his current job in Maryland, and he moved down to take that job. I was still working in Manhattan, so we did long distance for a little over a year, and then I officially moved down to Maryland just before COVID hit. Moving to a new city right before COVID was an interesting time haha — but Duncan surprised me with Herbie in May of 2020, which definitely made lockdown way more fun (and cuddly). Our family wouldn’t be complete without Herbie, and being surprised with a puppy is just about the cutest grand gesture I can think of (thanks, Duncan)!
The Proposal
“Duncan proposed in Hilton Head, North Carolina, on the beach (my happy place) with Herbie. We were about to leave to embark on our drive home to Maryland, and Duncan insisted on walking on the beach, despite a little drizzle, with Herbie before our drive. I kept wanting to turn around and go back because of the rain, and he oddly insisted we keep walking. Eventually, he got down on one knee, asked me to marry him, and both Herbie and I were hopping up and down excited (and Herbie barking) after he asked. We got to spend the rest of the drive calling friends and family to let them know we were newly engaged, which certainly made the car ride much more fun, and go by faster!”
The Wedding
Katie and Duncan’s wedding this past weekend was an absolute dream. They are the kind of couple who instantly make you feel welcome—kind, warm, and so much fun. From the very beginning, it felt like we were part of their friend group, which made documenting their day even more special.
Katie was the picture of laid-back joy. She even broke her toe the night before the wedding and simply laughed it off, calling it her “something blue.” She didn’t let it bother her for a second—she was too focused on what truly mattered: marrying Duncan and celebrating with the people she loves most.
From their portraits to the endless laughter to the incredible party, every moment was unforgettable. And as the very first Sagamore Pendry couple to host their reception at The Rec Pier Chop House instead of the ballroom, they made it all the more unique—the restaurant had such a cool, intimate vibe for their celebration.
Here are just a few of my favorite moments from this beautiful day!
