June 4, 2012 Today I fell in love
with an inanimate object.
This is not my first love affair with an inanimate object. Anyone who knows me knows that my iPhone is like an appendage and my Kindle lives in my bag at all times. And this is much the same kind of love, the kind where you want to use this thing every second of every day.
What is this object that I speak of?
My brand new 85mm lens.
Oh the beautiful images that will come from this baby! I can’t even tell you how excited I am.
But I can show you!!
Take this first image for example, typically when shooting a ring shot like this it takes me several exposures to get that “tack sharp” focus. Today with my new lens I got this sharpness time and time again on the first try.
Steve asked me, what do you mean by “tack sharp”? I mean, sharp as a tack! And that is exactly what this lens delivers even shooting wide open.
See the sharp edges of the leaves and how clear they are while everything else just fades into that creamy beautiful bokeh-y background? Magic.
It’s amazing to not be frustrated trying to get perfect focus and to get it on the first try! I couldn’t be more thrilled and I just want to keep shooting and shooting and shooting!
