The 2014 wedding season is very busy for me. However, I have a really nice long break between my first wedding of 2014 (1/11/14 – Laura and Danny) and my second at the beginning of April. This long break means I get the opportunity to unwind and gear up for wedding season, and that I also have the opportunity to second shoot more often!
My first wedding of 2014 as a second shooter was on January 25th with Dana Cubbage. I love working with Dana because she’s so fun and laid back and allows me to do my thing and experiment with different techniques and just have fun with it! This wedding was also especially cool because the couple really wanted night shots with the LOVE sign outside AVAM and Dana had me take charge for that part of the evening since night shots are “my thing.”
Katie and Brandon had a beautiful winter wedding. It was so cold that the Inner Harbor was frozen over, but that didn’t get them down! We started the day off at the Hyatt, watched them get married on the stairs at the American Visionary Art Museum, and partied at the gorgeous Tabrizi’s! We were only there for about 15 minutes of the dance portion of the night, but DJ Jacob Jensen got the party going from the very beginning!

I still have not mastered the technique of multiple exposures, but it was fun to play around with the technique! These next two photos are both double exposures.
While Dana stayed with the girls, I headed down to Brandon’s room to get some photos of him getting ready. I love these custom cufflinks bearing the coordinates of the American Visionary Art Museum.
When I got back upstairs, the finishing touches of Katie’s makeup were being done and it was time to get her dressed!
Katie and Brandon had a very sweet first look in the atrium of the Hyatt.
Following their first look we did many portraits inside, and a few outside in the cold. You can see more on Dana’s blog!
By the time we all arrived at AVAM (we traveled with the bridal party) it was already packed. Katie and Brandon chose to get married on the staircase between the second and third floors of the main museum. Dana stood at the bottom of the stairs, I was at the top. Their guests were standing on either floor watching from the balcony. It was pretty cool! Thankfully there were two of us so we could get more than just one angle throughout the wedding. They had so many friends and family come out to support them that we didn’t have much room :)
Following the ceremony we did some portraits inside the museum, and then headed outside for the night shots- my favorite part!
LOVE this one.
It was really fun being able to do these shots for Katie and Brandon. Thanks Dana for letting me do my thing!
Tabrizi’s was such a beautiful and elegant location for their reception.
They had a donut bar – I am OBSESSED with this idea… and with donuts in general. Now I want one.
As I mentioned at the top of this post, we were only there for 15 minutes of dancing, but Jacob Jensen made sure the energy was high from the very start so we could get some great photos!
Dana, I loved working with you, as always!! Congratulations to Katie and Brandon!
Beautiful! Love the staircase wedding. Favorites are the images with her bridesmaids around her beautiful flowing dress. AND the night shots of course!
You killed the night shots! (as usual) Great job on these – still hoping you’ll want to second for me one of these days… :)
These are so beautiful and clean and crisp. Love them!!
