Last week, Rick and Joey drove up from their home in North Carolina to be married at the Annapolis Courthouse. There were many places they could have chosen to go– New York, DC… but they chose Annapolis, the beautiful nautical Maryland town, with the adorable wedding chapel in the courthouse. After 15 years of being together, they were finally able to be legally wed, and it was truly an honor to be there for them. My assistant and I were the only people in attendance and we even signed as their witnesses. Their short but sweet ceremony moved us all to tears, and I loved walking around town with them afterwards capturing their love and joy. I couldn’t be happier that they found me and that I was able to witness such a beautiful love, and to be able to give them the photos they’d share with their family of their wedding day.
Originally we were planning on meeting at 9:30 am the morning at the courthouse, but the night before when I checked the forecast, there was a 100% chance of rain and the potential for very heavy rains. Rick and Joey wanted to do portraits around town and I wanted to be able to keep to the plan as much as possible. Thankfully the afternoon looked more promising weather wise and we chose to push our meeting time back to 2:30 pm in hopes of better weather and the outdoor portraits they had imagined. When we arrived at the courthouse there were four couples ahead of us, so we had about 30 minutes to get to know each other better and chat in the lobby before we were called back.
The ceremony was short and sweet but also beautiful.
Angela and I both teared up while they said their vows, exchanged rings, and were officially pronounced legal spouses.
After the ceremony we left the courthouse and explored the streets of Annapolis, capturing their love and joy. I honestly didn’t even need to pose them too much. Their happiness was all we needed.
Not posed, this just happened.
We headed to the docks and Rick surprised Joey with a first dance to Adele’s “Make you feel my love.” The two photos below from the dance were taken by Angela, I was busy manning my other camera capturing video for them!
After we finished up our portraits, we all went out for celebratory drinks!
Rick and Joey, I couldn’t be happier that you chose me to be a part of your wedding day. You are such great people and I wish you happiness in your marriage and continued love and joy for the next fifteen years and on and on!
