It’s always a huge honor to be chosen to capture the love story and wedding day for any couple, and even more so when they’re creatives themselves. Halo is an incredibly talented tattoo artist and owner of Black Lotus Tattoo Gallery in Severn, Maryland, and he competed last year on season four of Spike TV’s Inkmaster. He’s a rock star in the tattoo community, and truly a master of his craft. (I can’t wait to get some of his work myself!) Speaking of rock stars, that’s the only way I can describe Kat. She’s in grad school full time studying Molecular Medicine, she is an entrepreneur and owner of Black Lotus Tattoo Removal and was the first Tatt2away certified technician in the North-East United States, and in addition to all of that, manages to find time to ride her horse (and competes!), work on her skills as a painter, and more. These two both understand the definition of “hustle” and it’s awesome to spend time with similarly motivated people.
I first met Kat through her tattoo removal business. I’ve been a client of hers for over a year at this point, and thankfully I’m all done! (A blog post is forthcoming about the process in the next month or so, so stay tuned for that.) Halo proposed to Kat last December (that link is a super cute video, try not to cry), and shortly after I went in for my final removal session and I talked with Kat a little bit about their wedding plans and the possibility of me photographing their wedding. It was awesome and humbling that Kat kept me in the loop while they were booking the date for their venue to make sure that I’d be available!
I had been around Kat and Halo quite a bit prior to our session with all of the times I’ve been to the shop for removal and tattoo work, but getting time with them together outside of the shop environment and seeing how they interact with each other was really sweet. They’re so loving and affectionate, they’ve really got something special. Capturing their love was such a blast. None of these photos were forced… they made my job easy. It was really hard to pick favorites to post today! I’m thrilled to share these on the blog and can’t wait for their wedding next spring!
This session is amazing! I’ve been waiting to see this one. They are so adorable together and I’m super excited to start my tattoo removal with Kat next week! I love the ones you did on the bridge. Amazing!
