Every year I look forward to putting together the recap posts and seeing an entire year’s portfolio in one place. When I look through the images I often am met with mixed emotions. It’s exciting to see everything together and to re-visit wonderful days with wonderful people. It’s also exciting to see how much I’ve grown as an artist over the year. Also, as an artist, it’s inevitable to experience a twinge of disappointment. In my experience, artists are almost always disappointed with their work because they often compare it to where they want to be, not where they currently are or where they’ve been.
This year, I didn’t feel that twinge of disappointment. I feel proud. I set a high bar of where I wanted to be with my work this year – and I feel like even though that bar is high, and I’m constantly setting it higher and higher – for the first time, I’m truly happy with where I am, and where I’m headed as a photographer.
There are common themes that I feel while looking at these images, and those themes are things that I’ve been aspiring toward in my work. Every single photo was picked deliberately for this post. There’s at least one from every engagement session, wedding (and two family sessions) of the year. They’re not only a reflection of where I’ve been, but also where I want to be.
Thank you to all of the amazing people that have and will trust me to capture their lives. I love this job more than I can put into words. I hope you can tell.
Without further ado, my favorite images from 2016.

Wow, congratulations on setting that bar high and crushing it this year! It truly shows in your work! It’s amazing to see how your work has evolved into this style!
Wow, this is just such a lovely set of images!
It has been amazing to see your growth over the years, and it’s mind boggling to think that you’ll continue to grow even more.
It’s just a testimate to the type of person that you are- you grab life with all you can and push yourself to where you want to be. It’s not that things come easy to you, it’s that you roll up your sleeves, work hard and constantly reflect back on how you can push yourself even further. It’s just one of the many qualities that make you the amazing person that you are.
You’re the best brea! Love all these pictures!
So many ridiculously epic shots here! I don’t know how you narrowed it down!!! I can’t wait to see what you come up with for 2017!
