Welcome to Day Two of Shashank and Elena‘s two-day wedding celebration! Yesterday on the blog, I shared highlights from their Indian Wedding Ceremony in Gaithersburg, MD and today we get to take a look at highlights from their American wedding ceremony at Glenview Mansion from Saturday!

The Proposal

On yesterday’s post, I shared Elena’s story of how they met. Today we get to read about their proposal story! From the bride, “Around Christmastime 2016, I had just gotten back from New Zealand. We decided on a whim to go to Morongo Valley (near Palm Springs) for the Christmas weekend. On Christmas Eve, Shashank said we had to drive somewhere so he could show me the present he had gotten me for Christmas, but he wouldn’t allow me to look at the map to see where we were going. As it turns out, he had booked a private horseback trail ride in the valley, since he knows that I love horses. Amazingly, just as we were about to get on the horses, it started snowing! It kept snowing as we headed out on the trail with our guide, creating a magical atmosphere – Shashank later said the fact that it started snowing in the Californian desert was like a sign from the universe that we were meant to be together. I did notice that Shashank seemed rather nervous, but I thought it was just because he had never been on a horse before. Halfway through the ride, our guide said her saddle was slipping and she needed to stop and fix it. She suggested that we also get off our horses and hike up a nearby hill in the meantime. Totally unsuspecting of what was about to happen, I followed Shashank up the hill. Once we reached the top, he started speaking, but it wasn’t until he got down on one knee that I realized what was going on. I was so shocked and happy that I started crying and hugging him, but forgot to say yes until he reminded me that I hadn’t actually answered :)”

The Wedding

I love photographing multi-day weddings because by the time we show up on day two, we already know everyone and it feels like we’re a part of the party! Shashank and Elena had such a beautiful day for their wedding on Saturday – it couldn’t have been more perfect. They had both gotten each other very sweet and personal wedding gifts, and wrote their own vows which was lovely to witness. The reception was both laid back and fun – with a break after dinner for dessert and coffee followed by a short dance set. Dessert consisted of donuts (anyone who knows me knows I was all over it when the caterers offered me some), mini s’mores and tarts, and a hummingbird cake (the most delicious cake I’ve ever tasted in my life) made by Elena’s mom. Even the cake had a special meaning. When Shashank lived in New York as a student at NYU, there was a bakery he would go to to get hummingbird cake any time there was something worth celebrating. Elena’s mom made hummingbird cake for their wedding and he said it was even better than that amazing NY bakery! All in all, the day felt just like them. Sweet, warm, and full of love. Here are just a few of our favorites.
