Vendor Spotlight: Local Color Flowers

May 5, 2020 Vendor Spotlight: Local Color Flowers

In today’s blog post, we’re going to shine a spotlight on our absolute favorite florist! I’m not really a big “details” person at weddings, I’m much more into the people and the moments, and so flowers aren’t usually something I get excited about. That is, unless they’re done by Local Color Flowers.

Local Color Flowers is truly something special. Everything is locally sourced so it aligns perfectly with my values as an environmentalist. But not only does it feel good to use Local Color Flowers, but their work is STUNNING! I still remember the first time I saw a bouquet delivery show up at a wedding by Ellen. I didn’t know flowers could be that beautiful or smell that good!

Because everything is locally sourced, that also means that everything is based off of what’s in season at the moment. Which means there’s a small element of surprise with every wedding (sometime a big element of surprise if you’re open to being more hands off!), and that surprise is ALWAYS worth it. I’ve seen everything from simple white and green designs, to bursts of color, to perfectly seasonal fall and winter arrangements. They can do it all, and it’s always amazing.

Without further ado, here’s my interview with Ellen!

How long have you been in business?

We began Local Color Flowers in 2008. We are entering out 13th year in business.

How did you get started in the wedding industry?

Prior to starting the business, my friends and I designed flowers for weddings of people we knew. Just for fun. We all worked on farms and at farmers markets and wanted to use locally grown flowers from farmers we knew and worked for, for our designs. We started to notice more and more people around us getting married were excited about the possibility of using locally sourced, in season flowers. When started, we had the goal of being a bridge between local farmers who had flowers available and engaged couples that wanted those flowers.

What do you love most about doing flowers for weddings?

Using locally sourced flowers, and working with a diverse clientele means that our designs are different every week. Being able to be create designs for our clients that reflect what’s happening in nature in our region is definitely my favorite thing about doing flowers for weddings.

Describe your ideal client / request:

Our ideal client is someone that is excited to be surprised about their wedding flowers. We love when a client gives us a general color palette and a few inspiration photos and then let’s choose the most beautiful flowers available that week for their designs. I also love requests for color!

What is your favorite flower of the moment?

Flowers come in an out of season every week. Right now I love ranunculus, double tulips, lily of the valley and peonies. In a few weeks I’ll be loving campanula, larkspur and nigella.

Shout out the local farms you work with :)

We love our local growers! Here are a few that we work with regularly and couldn’t live without!
