This past weekend we were in Portland, Oregon, celebrating the wedding of Elyce and Randy! This is a day I was really looking forward to and it did not disappoint.

The Couple

Elyce and Randy are two of the sweetest people you’ll ever meet. They also really love sweets. To the point that their relationship basically started as a bake off. The first time they met, they were at a party where they had mutual friends. Randy had to find out who made the delicious dessert he was eating (Poached Pear Lemon Cake) – the answer of course being Elyce.

Six months later they reconnected at another gathering, and began to get to know each other. Their first “non-date”, Elyce brought Randy apple cinnamon bread she had made. The second “non-date”, Randy brought her some Italian herb and cheese bread he’d made. The day of their third time getting together – the first “real” date, Elyce invited Randy inside before they left to “finish something up” quickly, which meant brûléeing a pie and feeding him a slice. I’m told that it turned into a competition, constantly trying to one up each other with the baked goods. Eventually they called it quits on the competition, but it more than paid off. They had found their forever person, and neither would ever have to go without delicious, delicious food.

The Wedding

Randy and Elyce’s wedding was such a beautiful celebration of two wonderful individuals and their one of a kind love. They were married at the Grotto, which is a stunning Catholic sanctuary in Portland, with an incredible rock face as the backdrop. It’s not often you get to have a Catholic ceremony outdoors, and this was such a gorgeous place to do it. Elyce got ready at her childhood home, on the river’s edge, with gorgeous views, and their reception took place at Lakeside Gardens which was the perfect Pacific Northwest venue. But this day was much more about the people than the location, no matter how incredible it was. It was such a warm, loving day… and unsurprisingly, given their beginnings, the food and dessert were delicious. Here are just some of my favorites!
