Sam and Nate’s Cloisters Castle wedding featured a rainy-day celebration, outdoor portraits, and a dramatic falcon ring delivery.
The Couple
From the bride: “We met on good ole Hinge, having our first date at BC Brewery because we both love chicken wings. During our first date we ordered almost the same thing (blue cheese for him, ranch for her) and played our first board game together, Hive. Sam totally won both times. We sat for hours and talked about everything from our dream travel plans (Greece) and our love of Disney and musicals.
“About 1.5 years after we started dating, Nate’s sister got engaged. Nate and Sam had already started talking about marriage, but now the pressure was on! Sam was really hoping it would happen at her favorite lighthouse in Maine, but he kept her waiting and on her toes. The engagement happened just before the second anniversary of their first date. Sam was finishing her first day back to work after winter break. Nate called her on her way home, and he really wanted to play “Wingspan,” one of their favorite games. Sam was so tired that she didn’t want to play the game, and didn’t take her planned trip to the nail salon.
“After a laid back dinner of Sam’s favorite “happy pasta,” they started playing Wingspan, which Nate had already set up. At the start of the second round, Nate handed Sam a card as part of another card’s effect – and the custom wingspan card had the proposal on it! Nate has a video of Sam gasping, then crying, then blubbering, but it can’t be seen because it was hidden by the darn game box!! Let’s just say…they didn’t finish their game. Not only becuase they were so excited to called their loved ones, but Nate had obviously cheated, keeping those specific cards in his hand!”
The Wedding
Sam and Nate’s wedding at Cloisters Castle was a beautiful rainy day celebration filled with meaningful moments and stunning backdrops both inside and out. They shared private vows back to back before their first look, creating an emotional start to the day, and despite the rain we were still able to capture outdoor portraits around the castle grounds. Inside, the castle’s gorgeous library (also the location for the bar!) and iconic spiral staircase made for epic indoor portraits. Their ceremony was a bit short because of the rain, but featured a dramatic falcon ring delivery. I particular love that we got the guests’ reaction to the falcon surprise! I knew that Sam and Nate’s wedding would be one of my favorites this year, but it was truly one of a-kind.
