This past weekend, we kicked off our 2023 wedding season with Alissa and Alex, and I could not have dreamt of a more loving, heartfelt, FUN wedding to set the tone for what I’m sure will be an amazing year.
The Couple
Alissa and Alex were introduced by mutual friends (shout out to Alicia and Jon!) while Alissa was hiding out in Florida (shout out to COVID) and Alex was living in DC (shout out to DC).
Following countless FaceTime dates and some serious text message flirtation, Alissa and Alex met for their first IRL dinner in DC, where they confirmed that they really liked each other and discovered that neither especially cares for shiso. The very next day, Alex bravely journeyed to Aspen Hill where he spent a three day holiday being interviewed by a revolving panel of Alissa’s close friends. He passed!
Following some back and forth between Maine and DC, it became increasingly clear to Alissa and Alex that they had found their person.
Alissa flew with Alex to Israel to visit his brother, sister-in-law, and Alissa’s future niece. After about a week back in DC, Alissa and Alex drove to his parents’ house in Cleveland. When he learned that his original proposal plans were going to get rained out, he decided not to wait any longer. After dinner with the Denkers, Alex invited Alissa on a sunset walk. They paused on a romantic bridge, where a (legitimately very large) spider made Alissa squeal and run away–proposal plan number two also foiled. Finally, they found a nice arachnid-free bench overlooking a pond where Alex asked Alissa to marry him. She said yes!
The Wedding
Alissa and Alex’s wedding was so beautiful and a perfect celebration of a beautiful couple. They have the most wonderful friends and family, and watching everyone express their love and gratitude for each other so openly brought me to tears many times. It was truly an honor to be a part of such a uniquely beautiful day. Here are just some of my favorites.
