Amara + Jon’s Peabody Library Wedding this past Friday was such a joyous celebration. I’m psyched to share highlights on the blog today!

The Couple

From the couple: “We met in January 2021 via Hinge during Covid! Our first date was on Zoom, which now feels like a bit of a novelty/throw-back. The sound on Amara’s zoom wasn’t working so she asked Jon for his number so they could use audio from their phones while on the video call. She then had his number and followed up on text! Our second date – and first in person date – was a freezing snowy masked walk (pre-vaccine!) around Lincoln Park where we talked about our shared interest in political philosophy, open mic nights, running, travel, music, and started to get to know each other better. Amara brought Jon maple sugar candy – and they both brought hot beverages. Jon called Amara that night to ask if she wanted to exclusively date, Amara said yes, they both got Covid tested, and then Amara hosted Jon for dinner where she made her family’s maple salmon recipe and he made his signature pecan cheesecake. Early dates included going ice skating, walking around the monuments, and trips to Annapolis and Charlottesville. Soon after, Amara got into graduate school in Boston and they moved in together in Cambridge, MA. The rest is history!

“We’ve spent time exploring the cities we are both from – Cambridge, MA and London, England – and also traveling to some amazing places: Morocco, Japan, Italy, Turkey, Jamaica, and across the U.S. We moved back to DC in June 2023, and have loved living here! Jon proposed in August 2023 on his birthday in the TWA Hotel (a 60s airport hotel at JFK) before they took off for a ten day “Classics” trip he had planned for them in Europe.”

The Wedding

Amara and Jon are such kind and wonderful people. I had such an amazing time getting up before the sun for their engagement photos earlier this year, I knew their wedding day was going to be something special. Capturing their joy and the love they have for their people was truly an honor. This is one of my favorite blogs I’ve ever gotten to share, because it just oozes joy.
