Vermont Weekend Recap!

July 31, 2012 Vermont Weekend Recap!

I have been completely slacking and I am so sorry this took so long to get up! It’s been a bit of a crazy two weeks for me.

The weekend before last I went to Vermont for a long weekend. I spent the first day there with my awesome friend Lindsey and then the rest of the time with the family. We got my mom and all of her brothers together for the first time in at least ten years. It was awesome :)

My mom and I drove overnight Thursday night. We always do this because it knocks the travel time nearly in half. If you do it during the day with all of the different cities and rush hours you hit it can be upwards of 13 hours, overnight it’s closer to 6 or 7. We were on track to get to Vermont around 2 AM until we hit HORRIBLE traffic in Connecticut. After sitting in that crap for about an hour I opened Waze on my iPhone and it navigated us around the traffic. We ended up getting to Vermont around 3:30 in the morning. I was supposed to meet Lindsey at sunrise so I got maybe 2 hours of sleep before I took a quick shower and headed out to Burlington, a one hour drive from my grandmother’s house.

While I was driving up route 89, the sun was peeking through the clouds and the view was absolutely phenomenal. There were a few times I considered pulling over and getting a shot of the beautiful mountains with the clouds low in the valley but I didn’t want to be late to meet Lindsey so I decided against it. Kicking myself for that now!

I met Lindsey and we headed out to Lake Champlain. I completely fell in love. It’s so beautiful!! Just take a look!

I got a few photos of the lovely Lindsey. When I showed them to her on the camera she said “That is SO librarian of me!” Pretty appropriate considering she is a librarian at Champlain College ;)

Apparently I’m hilarious.

Then a stranger came by on a bike and offered to take a picture of the two of us. Note to self: Set the camera on Program mode when handing to strangers. One was vastly underexposed and the other was unusably out of focus. I’ve bumped up the exposure quite a bit on this one and there are artifacts from it in our dark blue hoodies. I’m still including it because it’s a cute picture :)

The clouds were AMAZING that morning!

We spent the day exploring Burlington and took a quick trip out to the Waterbury/Stowe area. We went to the Ben and Jerry’s factory (a must for every visit of mine to Vermont), and the Cold Hollow Cider Mill (another must) where we stocked up on jams, split a cider donut, and sampled their amazing apple cider. We had breakfast and lunch in Burlington, and I had my first maple creemee. If you’ve been to Vermont and have never had a maple creemee, it’s definitely a must do! I’ve been going my whole life and I had never even heard of them until now. I couldn’t find them in Randolph so that’s probably why since that’s where my family lives. A maple creemee is a maple flavored soft serve. DELICIOUS!

Early on Saturday my grandparents’ neighbor came over with his dog Maggie. She’s a service dog who has been trained to react to his diabetes. She has saved his life three times. She’s amazing!

Saturday night we had our family cookout. As with all family gatherings, we played cribbage.

My grandparents’ yard opens into this gorgeous field. I would love to do a photo session with someone there some time!

Before everyone parted ways I got several family photos. My mom always looks so, so happy when she’s home and around her family.
It was a wonderful visit and I’m so glad that I’ve been able to make it up twice already this year!

If you live in Vermont and would like to schedule a photo session, please don’t hesitate to contact me! I love any excuse to get up to see my family more often :)

That’s great that you’ve been able to get up to Vermont for some family time!! Not so great about the traffic, but the maple cremee’s sound like they made up for it ;)

even better- replace my head with a 1980’s David Hasselhoff mug!
