Kellie and Grant‘s wedding this past weekend at The Barn at Willow Brook was 110% worth the wait.

The Couple:

From Kellie: “Math class is how it all started! I was a freshman in my first college math class (Calculus 3) in 2009. He walked in, super tall, as you know, and I thought “why is a senior in my math class..?” Turns out he was a sophomore. He sits down across from me, and the teacher starts asking questions we should already know from Calc 2, and he starts raising his hand, competing with me, to answer her before I can. That’s how he caught my attention.

A month or so later he tells me he saw I did good on the first test and asked if I could tutor him. I know that sounds like just a cute pickup line, but he actually needed help, haha. I was dating my high school boyfriend at the time, so we met up and studied together and kept it super platonic. A few study sessions later, I broke up with my boyfriend (total asshole, and it took me meeting someone awesome like Grant to have the courage to leave him), and Grant wasted ZERO time making his move. We’ve been together ever since.

He graduated in 2012, and I graduated in 2013, and we moved in together in Frederick in 2014. Then we moved to Ashburn, Virginia in 2017 and got our puppy!

The Proposal

Fast forward another move to another house in Ashburn in 2018, when we started planning our first vacation that would be just the two of us- not attached to either of our jobs (we’ve traveled a bunch for my job). We decided some epic hikes out in Utah would be awesome. We set out in May 2019, hiked all over Zion, Bryce Canyon, Antelope Canyon, drove through Monument Valley, and made our way to our last stop- Moab. We went canyoneering (HIGHLY recommend!) and spent a day doing crazy hikes and scrambling all through the arches.

On our final day in Moab we got up and made the hike to the most picturesque arch- The Delicate Arch. Grant went over and asked a couple to take our photo under it (they also secretly video taped it all). We posed for a photo and then he got down on one knee and said, “Kellie, I love you, will you go on this journey they call life with me? Will you marry me?”

The Wedding

Kellie and Grant are one of our many couples for 2020 that were impacted by the virus. Their original date of May 23 came and went and they rescheduled to September, and we all crossed our fingers that we could have the day as planned. After 10 years together, I could not have imagined a more beautiful day for these two. So much love and emotion, surrounded by the most important people in their lives (seriously, everyone was amazing and we even felt like a part of their family and friend group), it was absolutely perfect. They had incredible food provide by P.I.G.S. – my favorite Maryland based caterer, with a surprise Ben and Jerry’s sundae bar for dessert. The ceremony was so sweet and emotional – their reception was a blast. Seriously, I couldn’t have imagined a better way to start this new journey for them. Here are a few of my favorites.
