About a month ago, Vanessa asked me if I would be available to photograph her courthouse wedding in April. And then last week she asked me if I was available on 2/22/22 because they decided to say fuck it and do it now. Sure enough, I was available, and so, we did the thing.

The Couple

Vanessa and Eric met on one of the dating apps during 2020. He liked one of her photos, she initiated a conversation, and it eventually led to them going out for tacos. Vanessa says it was love at first sight. They closed down the restaurant, and after spending many hours together, ended up going their separate ways. Once home, they texted for a few more hours, and Eric invited Vanessa to his house. She went, with her two guard dogs in tow. As she pulled up to the house, she realized his house was the house she tried to buy, but he got it instead. She told him that that was HER house, and her Christmas tree was going to look great in that window. Quite the bold comment to make on a first date, but, her tree did look damn good in that window.

The Wedding

Vanessa and I met 11 years ago online while planning our weddings… and we both got divorced within the last few years. So we’ve had quite a few things to bond over. In both of our cases, divorce has lead to immense personal growth and it’s been awesome to watch her flourish. When she found Eric, it was clear that she had found her match even just observing from a distance. Seeing them together in person, just confirms everything I had seen unfold online. They balance each other out in their opposite temperaments, but their interests and personalities align nearly perfectly.

So on Twosday, we went to the courthouse and they did the damn thing. We went to Little Havana for tacos and margaritas (what’s up National Margarita Day!), surprised some friends and family both in person and on FaceTime with the news, and then nearly blew away in Federal Hill for some windy but gorgeous dusky night portraits. Nothing fancy, just love… and it was an honor to be their witness and photographer for it all.
