Wedding FAQ

Why do you photograph weddings?

Because they’re important. Because people are important. Weddings aren’t about linens and flowers and pretty details. They’re about two families becoming one. This is one of the most beautiful and emotional days of your life. Never again in your life will you have this many people from both sides of the family in one place at one time. That’s what matters. Being included on such an important day and capturing those little beautiful moments between you and your loved ones is what I love most. This is what makes this job so amazing.

What is your style?

I am a photojournalist at heart. I want to capture everything as it happens and put my mark on the day as little as possible. The less your photographer interferes, the more present you are – and that’s what I want. For you to be emotionally engaged and present. It’s such an important day, and it goes by so fast. You deserve to experience it as fully as possible. When you do that, I can capture the beautiful moments. If you are having the time of your life, your photos will be amazing!

During family formals, I take charge and get through them as efficiently and quickly as possible while making sure we get the best images of everyone involved. For couples’ portraits, I’ll work with you to get beautiful portraits both traditional and creative that capture your true personalities. The rest of the time, I’m like a ninja, navigating the space with care, and capturing all of the little moments.

To be able to do my job as best as possible requires trust. I don’t want you to worry about a thing when you choose me to be your photographer. This is why I include an engagement session with all of my collections and insist on meeting in person whenever possible before booking. I want to get to know you, and I want you to get to know me. The more comfortable we are with each other, the better things will be. I also just really love what I do and the people I get to work with and many of my former couples have become true, lifelong friends :)

Do you offer collections with a second photographer?

Absolutely! I am fortunate enough to have a couple of consistent second shooters who work with me and complement my work perfectly. My second shooters all have a strong photojournalistic style and having two of us there allows us to get more complete coverage of the day, because we can focus our energies in different places. While I focus on the two of you during the first dance, they can focus on your parents’ reactions. When I’m getting ready for the bride and bridesmaids to come down the aisle, they hang back with the bride and whoever is going to walk her down the aisle to capture any sweet moments before she’s given away. I can also rely on my second shooter to capture the “safe” shots while I get the more creative angles. We make an awesome team! All of our all-inclusive wedding collections include two photographers, but if you’re working on a budget and would prefer a la carte coverage, you can opt for one photographer. Whether you book one photographer or two, we will have a non-shooting assistant with us to help us with managing the timeline,  lighting, etc. so we can focus on capturing the moments. Either way, we’ll have a great team with us!

Why is an engagement session important?

There are so many reasons that an engagement session is important, but the biggest one for me is that we get to hang out for a few hours and get to know each other better. The more comfortable we are together, the more you’ll be able to open up in front of the camera on the wedding day. I’ll be able to capture you as you truly are and get those genuine real moments. I find that I’m creatively at my best when I’m emotionally invested in my couples – which is why most of my wedding collections include an engagement session. I want to be like an old friend by the time the wedding comes around, so I can capture you in a way that only someone who knows and cares about you can. The engagement session is also a dry run so you guys can get comfortable being photographed and being posed. Having romantic portraits taken is a very strange thing for most couples – and getting that practice in is a huge help for feeling more comfortable on the wedding day and being able to make the best use of the short time we have for photos of just the two of you.

Do you photograph LGBTQ+ weddings?

Love is love is love is love is love.

If you’re in love, I will happily photograph your wedding.

Do you also offer wedding albums?

Yes! Having a tangible keepsake from your wedding day is the best way to preserve those memories for future generations and decades to come. My parents’ wedding album is even more valuable to me than it is to them, and that value will only go up with time. On their wedding day, the only other person present was my Uncle Tom. He has since passed away, and those photos mean more to me now than I could ever express. The way it captures not only everyone’s excitement and happiness, but also the relationship that the three of them had is irreplaceable. As the documentarian for your wedding day, I’d love to provide you with your first family heirloom. The wedding album is the best way to preserve those memories for the ones who care about you most. Technology is constantly changing, but a book will always have its place.

Do you offer a photo booth?

Yes, we do! It is a fun and hilarious add-on option to our wedding collections! We have an open-air booth that provides awesome high quality photos of all of your guests’ crazy shenanigans. Our wedding day assistant turns into a photo booth attendant once the reception starts to keep things running smoothly!

What’s your turnaround time?

My turnaround time is very quick. For weddings, you’ll get a blog post the following week with about 50-100 images, and the full gallery within 2-4 weeks of the wedding. Portrait session galleries are typically delivered within 2 weeks of the session.

Do you have backup gear?

Absolutely. I firmly believe in having backup gear. You never know what will happen and it could always happen at the wrong moment, which is why I always bring two professional camera bodies ready to go to each and every wedding as well as multiple lenses. My main camera records to two cards at once so there’s also a backup on the spot of each image.

Do you travel?

100% yes! I have tons of couples that aren’t local to Maryland, and I travel all over to serve them! I’ve photographed in Maryland, DC, Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, North Dakota, Massachusetts, Vermont, North Carolina, Mexico and Jamaica. I travel not just for weddings but also for portrait sessions. Whatever you’re dreaming of – let’s chat about it!

Do you do boudoir sessions?

I do! Though to respect the privacy of the beautiful women (and men!) who have trusted me to photograph them, I do not have a public gallery link. If you are interested in learning more about my boudoir photography, I will be happy to send you a private gallery. It’s one of my absolutely favorite things to photograph. It is so empowering, and I would love the honor of showing you how strong, badass, and beautiful you are – inside and out.

Do you offer family photography?

I do! My unique approach to weddings ended up sparking a deeper calling… to be able to give you tangible proof of the love in your life. Weddings give a ton of opportunity to do just that, but I realized it didn’t have to stop there. I specialize in family documentary photography and I want to be your photographer for life! It’s so incredibly rewarding to build a relationship with you and be able to capture all seasons of your life. You can see more and read more about my family work on my separate website, Life by Brea.
