Rain on Your Wedding Day | Perspectives of a Baltimore Wedding Photographer

April 13, 2020 Rain on Your Wedding Day | Perspectives of a Baltimore Wedding Photographer

It’s been a while. For the last several years, this blog has been primarily used to share our recent weddings, engagement sessions, and year end recaps from our work as wedding photographers in Baltimore, MD. Now that the novel coronavirus has derailed our spring 2020 wedding season, it’s going to be a while until I’ll have new photography work to share. So, it seems like a good time to dust off my blogging skills and start sharing some fresh content on the blog – starting with today’s post about rain on your wedding day.

Over the next few weeks I’ll be sharing tips, favorite photos, favorite vendors and venues, and some personal posts as well.

Making Lemonade out of Lemons: Rain on your Wedding Day

One of the things I’ve learned about weddings is that sometimes, things don’t go as planned. Almost always, that ends up leaving room for people to come together and make things right. After all, everyone who is gathered with you to celebrate your wedding is there because they love you, they want it to be as amazing as possible! We’ve had weddings where the rings were forgotten at home (twice), transportation delays getting the guests to the venue leading to a seriously delayed ceremony, and thanks to 2018 (the rainiest year EVER) lots and lots of rainy weddings. I’ll share lots of photos and the stories behind them in the coming months, but today I wanted to focus on rainy weddings.

Over the years we’ve had many couples choose to get married outside despite the rain. Honestly, I love it. Obviously, if it’s a crazy downpour it’s no good for anyone to be outside, but if it’s a light drizzle – it just adds to the magic! A couple of years ago, Bharath and Tracy did just that at their Frederick Douglass Maritime Park Wedding. They chose to have the outdoor ceremony anyway in the light drizzle. Their guests had THE BEST attitude about it! They donned their scarves and umbrellas and laughed through it all!

The Magic of Rainy Night Shots

But the best part of a rainy wedding day, is the magic of rainy night shots. There’s no compliment greater than hearing from a bride (as we often do) “I didn’t freak out when I saw that it was supposed to rain on our wedding day because I knew you would be able to capture it perfectly.”

Rain may not be something you anticipate when you dream of your perfect wedding day, but if it happens – it’s a part of your unique story. And we can work together to make it something beautiful.
