Kathryn and Zack’s wedding this past weekend at the Maryland Science Center was absolutely magical to witness. From their incredible vows under the stars in the Planetarium, to the epic dance party under the dinos – this was a photographer’s dream. Amazing people and moments, and the coolest location to photograph them in.

The Couple

From the couple: “Zack and Kathryn met on OKCupid. It turned out they both lived on Calvert Street only 7 blocks apart. Both were Baltimore transplants; Kathryn from the Philly area and Zack from Georgia. Kathryn was telling her friend Liz on a long car trip that there was this nice guy she had been chatting with on the app, but that she had let it go too long without a response. Liz refused to let Kathryn out of the car until she had restarted the chat and helped her workshop what to say. By the end of the night, Zack and Kathryn had scheduled their first date.

“Kathryn brought her LSAT book to their third date (she had plans for coffee and studying with a friend later that afternoon). Whether he knew fully what he was getting into at that time, Zack supported Kathryn through the LSAT, law school, and the bar exam.”

“Zack met Kathryn’s mom minutes before she was going under general anesthesia for emergency surgery. Kathryn swears she had told her mom about him, but her mom seemed surprised. They had to spend the entire length of the surgery getting to know each other in the waiting room.”

The Proposal

“Kathryn and Zack went together to order an engagement ring, but Kathryn didn’t know anything about timing until Zack’s car spilled the beans! When Kathryn went to use the built-in GPS, she saw that the car had recently made a trip to the jewelry shop. (Insert suspicious eyes emoji!) She also noticed that the gas tank had mysteriously gone down a quarter tank… just about the distance of the drive to the D.C. store and back. They had plans to go to a concert that week and Zack had suggested a picnic at Fed Hill park before the show. Kathryn squeezed in a manicure the morning before the show :)”

The Wedding

Kathryn and Zack’s wedding on Saturday was just magical. Everything was not only gorgeous but also so thoughtful and meaningful. When Kathryn walked down the aisle, the Planetarium ceiling lit up with the stars from the night they first met. Then it shifted an image from the James Webb telescope while they exchanged vows. It was awesome to see how in sync they are, their vows just naturally echoed each other. The whole day was amazing, and it was all about celebrating two awesome people. I’m excited to share the highlights on the blog today!
